Amir Khan wants Marcos Maidana next
Written by Ranjit Kumar Sunday, 16 May 2010 08:28

After beating an old, slow and overrated Paulie Malignaggi, Amir Khan seems to be growing some balls and bravely said: "I will fight Marcos Maidana next!" I'm not taking anything away from Khan and I want to congratulate him for winning this fight. The people in Britain and Pakistan could be celebrating right now but I am in India so I could care less about it. Although he dominated the slower and older Malignaggi, I think Maidana is on another level. Malignaggi is the king of overrated boxers, having been TKO'd by an overrated Ricky Hatton and decisioned by another overrated Juan Diaz. The difference is that Marcos Maidana is a very strong puncher and his chin is as tough as Adamantium. If Khan pursues that challenge then I believe he is biting off more than he can chew.
Marcos Maidana's record is 28-1, 27 KOs. That's 28 wins, 27 by way of knockout, with only 1 loss. His only loss came from Andriy Kotelnik via split decision, who Amir Khan defeated by unanimous decision last December 5, 2009. Khan's boxing skills might have improved a bit but whatever chin you have since you were a kid, will always be the same chin that you will have until you grow old, and Khan's chin has been proven to be of glass quality with that first round knockout loss against Breidis Prescott. Imagine smashing a glass with an Adamantium hammer, and what you get are powdered pieces of the glass. That's what fans will see if Khan decides to be brave enough to face his own destruction.
Many boxing critics have been all over Khan for not picking Maidana for his American debut fight, especially since Maidana is the mandatory challenger. Instead, he picked Malignaggi who is a very inferior fighter with only 5 knockout wins on his record. If the fight with Maidana indeed does happen in the future then I will take my hat off to Amir because despite of the crystal clear advantages of Marcos over him, at least he finally grew some balls.
"He is a great fighter but we know how to beat Maidana. I'll put out a statement today. If Maidana wants to fight, let's have it next. A lot of people putting the pressure on me to fight Maidana. I'll fight Maidana next. Let Timothy Bradley and Devon Alexander fight each other and then face those guys in the finals. So it's like a semi-finals, me and Maidana and Alexander and Bradley. I'm not leaving 140-pounds until I unify the titles, until I'm number one", said the highly-ambitious Khan.
