Antonio Margarito learns that Karma is a bitch
Written by Guillermo Pacheco Saturday, 07 May 2011 02:01

Former world welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs) is struggling to recover from an eye injury he suffered in a losing effort against Manny Pacquiao in November 2010. Pacquiao's left uppercut grazed Margarito's face just under the right eye, causing a fractured orbital bone. Margarito will undergo an examination next week to determine whether he can continue fighting or not.
Top Rank president Bob Arum had been planning to set a rematch between Margarito and Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto. Margarito defeated Cotto via an 11th round TKO in July 2008, but the legitimacy of the result of that fight has been in doubt due to a controversy that Margarito was involved in four months later. Margarito was caught with illegal handwraps during his fight with Shane Mosley in January 2009.
"It's hard to think that he'll have to maybe quit like this when there's still million dollar paydays out there for him. I always tell these guys to invest their money when they get it, because that next big fight might never come. This is a big hit. He's a close friend," a worried Robert Garcia, Margarito's trainer, said.
Margarito will be visiting John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah next week to have his eye condition examined. The doctor's findings will decide the fate of Margarito's career. If the results come out bad, he will have to quit boxing. I hope not because Margarito deserves another chance. He probably cheated against Cotto and tried to cheat against Mosley, and in return he got cheated by Pacquiao. Cheating begets cheating, and karma is a bitch.
