Fernando Montiel denies that he suffered a hairline fracture

Nonito Donaire knocks out Fernando Montiel

Former WBC and WBO bantamweight champ Fernando Montiel denied reports that he suffered a hairline fracture from last Saturday's second round knockout loss to Nonito Donaire. In a Press conference held at Montiel's hometown of Los Mochis in Mexico, Fernando clarified speculations regarding his condition. Kochulito said he wants to fight as soon as possible but his father and trainer, Manuel Montiel, advised him to take a couple of months rest.

"I'm calm. A person learns from his defeats. I had no fracture and I wasn't in a coma or anything like that. I am already turning over to the next page. It's a very heavy page, but I have to do it. You see, I have to admit that I was badly hurt by the shot. The fight was stopped at the right time because I wasn't capable of thinking at 100% or even 50%, or doing what had to be done. I believe that I'm going to rise from this and I will be a world champion again," Montiel said.

"Fernando is good. He was taken to hospital because in Las Vegas, by regulation, you must be examined if you lose by knockout. But once they did the appropriate tests at the hospital and they found that evrything was okay, we went back to the hotel. Although he wants to fight as soon as possible, Fernando will have to rest for three to four months before returning to the ring," Manuel Montiel said.
