With Bradley out of the picture, who will Amir Khan fight next?
Written by Ranjit Kumar Thursday, 05 May 2011 06:23

The deadline set by Golden Boy Promotions for WBC/WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley to accept an offer to fight WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan in a July 23 unification bout has passed. Bradley refused to sign the contract because he didn't like the small offer of 1.3 million dollars. With Bradley practically off the table, who will be Khan's next opponent?
A rematch with either Marcos Maidana or Breidis Prescott will be quite appealing to the fans. However, I'm not sure if Khan would be interested to face either fighter again after the savage beating he suffered in their hands. Prescott knocked him out in just 54 seconds when they fought in September 2008. Maidana almost knocked him out in the tenth round when they fought in December 2010, but Amir somehow escaped with a lucky win.
Erik Morales (51-7-0, 35 KOs) and Zab Judah (41-6-0, 28 KOs) are also very good alternative opponents. Morales has just proven that he still has the power, stamina and heart of a warrior to fight toe-to-toe against young guns with his recent performance against Marcos Maidana. Judah, the current IBF light welterweight champion also has the power and speed to give Khan a run for his money.
However, I also highly doubt any of the opponents I mentioned are good for Khan at this point in his life. With the reported death of Osama Bin Laden, Khan could be very depressed right now. Sure, any of these four possible opponents will definitely beat Khan, but do we want excuses? Khan needs an opponent that he can surely beat. How about Floyd Mayweather Jr?
